Bio

Ed Knight’s exposure to music began early, growing up in west Texas. He benefited greatly from 5 years of formal piano and music theory instruction, which provided the underpinnings for later development. His first guitar was a cheap electric Japanese import at age 15, an instrument that sounded as bad as it looked and played. But it was enough to cut his teeth on and propel him toward better things. A first band in high school in the late 60’s was an early chance to learn more about musicianship and presentation.

Blues and rock were early mainstays, with jazz and other eclectic stylings added as he matured into a more fully accomplished musician. There were collaborations and other bands over the years, and his own band with a close friend and songwriter in the 80’s became an opportunity to delve deep in composition and arranging, recording on analog equipment of the time. The digital music revolution of the late 90’s provided a quantum leap toward a virtual explosion in creativity and possibilities, and he eventually established his own home recording studio, improving over the years on both the technical and musical quality of productions.

The mindboggling array of technical wizardry now available to musicians makes it possible for solo performers and composers to truly be a one-person band, or even orchestra, and with capabilities only dreamed about and drooled over in previous years, to produce professional quality recordings. Ed’s newest recordings reflect the long road toward achieving new heights in creativity and musical exploration. Ed now works and records under his own label, Redtail Recording.
